Muta-Gen is a saved game editor for MacPlay/Interplay's post-nuclear role playing game Fallout, that allows you to cheat by changing your character's various scores.
Installation:
•Place the Fallout Character Editor in the same folder as the Fallout application. That's it!
Editing a saved game:
•Launch the editor and select the saved game file that you would like to edit. Saved games are listed in order (from 1-10) and are shown as you named them. (Do not edit a game that was saved while in combat mode!)
•If your character information looks garbled, do NOT edit or save the file!
•Change what you like and click on the "Save" button to save the file, or the "Cancel" button if you change your mind and want to edit a different saved game. You can type command-Q or select "Quit" from the file menu at any time to exit without saving any changes.
•Leave Auto-Backup (in the File menu) turned on. With the Auto-Backup feature turned on, Muta-Gen will automatically save a copy of your uneditied SAVE.DAT file before it makes any changes. If your file has been previously editied, it will not be backed up. The only time you should really turn Auto-Backup off is if you are having difficulty with this feature or if you have extremely limited hard drive space.
•Some other tips:
-If you change your experience points, the change will not really register until you do something in the game to earn more XP (even a single point will do the trick).
-If you change your level, you will not gain additional HP, XP, skill points, or abilities; change your XP instead.
-Only 7 perks will be displayed in the character display - less if you've chosen any of the optional traits for your character.
Shareware:
Muta-Gen is no-guilt shareware; if you feel that it's added to or extended your enjoyment of the game and can afford to send in your registration fee, I sure would appreciate it! Once you do, you can click on the "I Paid" button in the "About" window to hide the startup screen if you want. See the "How to Register" file for complete registration information.
If you don't feel that Muta-Gen added all that much, or just can't afford to send in the shareware fee, please feel free to continue using it anyways, guilt-free. I would rather know that it is being used and enjoyed. (Especially since I ended up putting way more time into this than I had originally planned!)
The Fallout Character Editor may be freely distributed, unaltered, with all original documentation and files.
